At a time when so many bands are returning from the past to box nostalgia, it’s thankful that three of the original Henry Cows—Fred Frith, Tim Hodgkinson and Chris Cutler—and one of their last collaborators—Annemarie Roelofs—are reunite without looking back. The “Now” of the band’s name marks a preventive distance against any temptation to return to the past, which would go against the logic that articulated one of the most adventurous and disruptive British experimental rock groups. Unqualifiable and contemporary music open to the permanent transformation of free improvised music. Let no one wait for a revival. The only thing that comes from the past is its principles.
