SURVIVOR. Josep-Maria Balanyà and Tamara Joksimovic
I’d love to see you on this occasion, after so long, and I’d love to hear your signs of life and see if we can meet on that date. It will be a pleasure to receive you! A few years ago, Josep-Maria Balanyà played his composition Survivor at the “Two Days and Two Nights of New Music” festival in Odessa, Ukraine. He also performed works by Ukrainian composers Ludmila Samodaieva and Julia Gomelskaya. Now, this survivor takes on a sinister meaning and dedicates it to the people of that country. The poetics of Josep-Maria Balanyà’s compositions provoke deeply disturbing processes. Tamara Joksimovic’s projected scenographic content accompanies the sound, creating a narrative that seeks to generate questions in the context of today’s world, without showing answers or conclusions. The projected argument does not focus on the materialization of concrete things, but on their transmission, from emotions of intimate moments to general states that take up the whole space.
